GeoPalz has long been a favorite at Techlicious for their colorful pedometers that reward your kids for exercising. The company now has a new line of pedometers coming in April that take it up a notch. The GeoPalz iBitz is a Bluetooth-enabled pedometer that clips on to your belt and comes with apps for kids and adults.
The kids' app comes with a number of games your kids can play that are powered by exercise, like Striiv Play, which we review last fall. Most mobile games require an in-app purchase to power up the characters, but the ibitz GeoBotz get stronger the more time your child logs walking via the pedometer. Also, choosing healthy food and water to keep the GeoBotz happy is rewarded by the game. If you child wants to play more, they have to walk more. Sounds like a good trade off to us.
The parents aren't left out either. Their app covers the standard functions of pedometers: steps taken, distance covered, and calories burned. It can also track the progress of the kids' pedometer as well as synch to smart scales, heart monitors, and social sites.
The GeoPalz iBitz PowerKey for kids ($40) and Unity for adults ($60) will be available in April on the GeoPalz iBitz site. The apps run on both iOS and Android devices.
