How to Connect Onn Headphones & Earbuds to Bluetooth

by Josh Kirschner on May 28, 2024

Onn is an inexpensive brand of headphones and earbuds sold by Walmart. You'll find everything from over-ear noise-canceling headphones to true wireless earbuds to the new open-ear buds designs. If you're having trouble figuring out how to connect your Onn headphones to your phone, tablet, or computer via Bluetooth, follow these steps.

Onn Wireless Over-Ear headphones

1. Turn on pairing mode for your Onn headphones

When you first purchase a pair of Onn Bluetooth headphones, they should be in pairing mode. You'll see a flashing LED light to indicate they're in pairing mode.

If you're pairing your Onn Bluetooth headphones to a new device, you'll need to put them in pair mode.

For Onn over-ear headphones and wireless earbuds with a power button

Turn on your headphones and then press and hold the power button until you see the flashing lights to indicate pairing mode.

For Onn true wireless earbuds without a pairing button on the case

For true wireless earbuds, they will automatically re-connect with the last device they were paired with. If that device is out of range, you can open the case, and they'll go into pairing mode. If the device is in range, turn off its Bluetooth and then open the case to go into pairing mode.

For Onn true wireless earbuds with a pairing button on the case

For open-ear earbuds and other earbuds with a pairing button on the case, turn them on and then press and hold the pairing button for a couple of seconds.

For Onn bone-conduction headphones

Turn on your bone-conduction headphones and then press and hold the "volume up" and "volume down" buttons together for one second to enter pairing mode.

2. Find your Onn device on your phone or laptop and pair them

Paring with Android

Swipe down from the top of the screen. Touch and hold the Bluetooth icon to access Bluetooth settings. Turn on Bluetooth if it's off. Look for your Onn device under 'Available devices' and tap on it to connect.

Pairing with iPhone and iPad

Open the Settings app and then select Bluetooth. Turn on Bluetooth if it's off. Look for your Onn device under 'Other Devices' and tap on it to connect.

Pairing with MacOS

On your Mac, open the Apple menu, select 'System Settings,' and then click on 'Bluetooth.' Select your Onn device from the list, then click 'Connect.'

Pairing with Windows 11

Open 'Bluetooth & devices' in Windows Settings by clicking the Bluetooth button in the toolbar and selecting 'Add a Bluetooth Device.' If the Bluetooth button is hidden, click on the Windows icon in the lower-left corner of the taskbar, select Settings, and then 'Bluetooth & devices.'

When the 'Bluetooth & devices' window opens, click 'Add device.' In the 'Add a device window, select 'Bluetooth.' Look for your Onn device in the list and click on it to connect.

Alternatively, search for “Bluetooth” in your Windows search box. When the Bluetooth & other devices window comes up, make sure Bluetooth is on, then click “Add Bluetooth or other device” and select your device from the list.

Bluetooth Settings screen for Windows 11 with the Add Device button pointed out and the Windows icon and Bluetooth & devices menu option circled.

3. Confirm successful pairing

When you have successfully paired your Onn headphones to your phone or laptop, the LED on your headphones will stop blinking.

Use multipoint to connect headphones to a second device

Onn models like the Wireless Open-Ear Earphones, Wireless Over-Ear Headphones with Active Noise Canceling, and Wireless Bone Conduction Headphones support multipoint technology, allowing simultaneous connections to multiple devices. Here’s how to set up multipoint:

  1. Turn on your Onn headphones and connect to the first device.
  2. Once connected to the first device, re-enter pairing mode following the instructions at the top of this article.
  3. On the second device, access Bluetooth settings and select your headphones from the list of Bluetooth devices to complete the pairing process.
  4. To use both devices simultaneously, you’ll need to go back to your first device and manually re-connect to your Onn headphones following the instructions below.

Re-connecting on Android

Swipe down from the top of the screen. Touch and hold the Bluetooth icon to access Bluetooth settings. Select your device from ‘Saved devices’ or ‘Paired devices.”

Re-connecting on iOS and iPadOS

Open the Settings app and then select Bluetooth. Find your Onn device in the ‘My Devices’ list and tap on it to connect.

Re-connecting on Windows

Click on the Bluetooth icon in the taskbar. In the ‘Devices’ window that pops up, scroll down and click on the ‘Connect’ button next to your Onn device.

Re-connecting on Mac

Open the Apple menu, select ‘System Settings,’ and then click on ‘Bluetooth.’ Select your Onn device from the list, then click 'Connect.'

Troubleshooting your Bluetooth connection

If you have followed the steps above and your device still isn’t pairing, try the steps in our detailed guide on how to fix Bluetooth pairing problems.

This has never happened before. I used to be able to connect my Bluetooth headphones to my phone with ease, but now they won’t even turn on. I’ve tried several different combinations of buttons, I’ve held down the power button for more than ten seconds, and I even tried to connect while it was connected to the charger (it is fully charged). I’m so very confused and don’t know what to do, they’ve worked wonderfully in the past, and I don’t know how this happened. I also never stepped on it or spilt water on it, so I have no idea what’s going on.

I selected “forget Onn In-Ear” expecting it to connect, but nothing worked. I’ve held all three (and just the power button) down for more than a minute only for nothing to happen. They don’t seem to be broken, I just can’t get them to even light up. They are my only pair and I can’t spend money on another pair even if it is cheap. Please help as best as you can, has nothing to do with my phone, just the damned earphones.

If the buds aren’t lighting up at all, it’s almost certainly a charging issue with either the earbuds, the case or the charging cord you’re using. Are you sure the case is charged? If neither earbud is turning on, it seems like an issue with the case. If the cord is a standard USB cable, I would swap it with another and see if that resolves the charging issue. Else, you may need to buy a replacement case (which may not be possible).

I have ONN bluetooth earbuds, model ONB18AA004. Everything looks normal at first, so I pair them (or at least try to.) Then the name changes from ONN earphone to something in a weird foreign language. Then it gets weirder. It asks for a 4 digit PIN. I try putting in the default bluetooth PINs that it suggests, (0000 and 1234) but it doesn’t connect. I’ve tried every 4 digit number combination but it wouldn’t pair. Usually I don’t go to help forums such as these, but this is a last resort.

Try to forget the earbuds on your device, the go through the re-pairing method: With the power off, on the ear bud, hold down the power button until it starts flashing differently (may take up to 10 seconds) - this will be the initial pairing mode process. Then pair to your phone as a new device. That worked for others with similar issues.

So I was using my onn earbuds and I was trying to use discord while playing a game I joined the call and I couldn’t hear anything from people in the call from youtube or the game and I am very confused because it’s only when discord is open and when I’m using my mic in discord

WiFi devices can cause interference with Bluetooth - routers, cordless phones, even microwaves, when running. Are any of these things near your PC? If so, try moving them or your computer and see if you still have the same dropping issue.

I can’t get my WIndows 10 laptop to pair my ONN earbuds. My Samsung S20 works fine.  Is there a Windows 10 driver someplace I can try installing or do you have any suggestions on how to get Windows 10 Bluetooth Devices to recognize my ONN wireless earbuds?  Thank you

Yes, i kept pairing by holding both volume buttons but it wanted a pin. No pin worked. Finally i tried the power button until it flashed red and blue and that worked! Paired perfectly with no pin needed!

Are the Onn Groove Bluetooth headphones designed to work together via connection to one device? In the device settings I can see they are both connected, but audio is only heard in one device.

Thank you.

If you purchased a third-party warranty from Walmart or elsewhere, you will need to contact that warranty company directly.

To anybody that has the OON True Wireless earbuds (black case, I believe the mod# VIPRB-100002865) I spent 2 hours trying to troubleshoot the earbuds after trying to contact technical support without any luck and finally this work. My left earbud would not pair with my right, this is what I did:
1. Made sure the earbuds are not paired to any other device.
2. Pressed and held power button down on the left bud until it started to blink a lilac/light purple color. (As you hold, light will start off blinking white, then red and white, then finally light purple (lilac). While the left bud is blinking lilac, I did the same with the right bud.
3. After that they paired to each other. Tested by pairing to my phone and they both connected.
I really hope this helps and saves the next person time.

While turning on, continue holding down power button even after it says “power on” and it will then say “pairing…” and is now in pairing mode

First, charge your ear buds in case ,BUT you have to look on backside and make sure left is on left side of charger box and right is in right side of charger box.
Let charge for about an hour.
Take out earbuds, place in correct ear.
Open phone settings, go to Bluetooth wireless attached devices.
Add new device tap.
Search will begin.
It pop up and confirm.
You’re all set.
My review on the product is a 10 of 10.
Reception perfect, long distance clear noise cancel, clean crisp clear calls and reception, fantastic speaker system.
To note.
These earbuds have a sensor.
It knows when an ear bud is removed so if you take them out your music or whatever will be paused.
When you put them back in it will unpause.
For the price these are the very best functional all around simple to use.
I’ve had ear buds that cost over 100.00 all the way down in price range to these at 19.99 and I would still say they are the best.
Try watching TV on your phone and you’ll see the sound quality.
No crackling or interference whatsoever.
Make sure you’re phone is updated to the most recent update.

Just pick up a pair of ONN Groove and trying to connect it to my PlayStation it asked for passcode I tried 1111 0000 and 1234 the occasionally tell me that they’re connected but never to the PlayStation. I’m afraid I’ll get locked out of my PlayStation or the earphones if I keep trying the wrong passcode any other suggestions?

Why is there no volume control on these earbuds like others I have used that were cheaper?  I called the company & they say to control from the device like computer or phone.  However, the T.V. can be on 0 and the sound can not be turned down.  What a bummer!
