How to Connect Onn Headphones & Earbuds to Bluetooth

by Josh Kirschner on May 28, 2024

Onn is an inexpensive brand of headphones and earbuds sold by Walmart. You'll find everything from over-ear noise-canceling headphones to true wireless earbuds to the new open-ear buds designs. If you're having trouble figuring out how to connect your Onn headphones to your phone, tablet, or computer via Bluetooth, follow these steps.

Onn Wireless Over-Ear headphones

1. Turn on pairing mode for your Onn headphones

When you first purchase a pair of Onn Bluetooth headphones, they should be in pairing mode. You'll see a flashing LED light to indicate they're in pairing mode.

If you're pairing your Onn Bluetooth headphones to a new device, you'll need to put them in pair mode.

For Onn over-ear headphones and wireless earbuds with a power button

Turn on your headphones and then press and hold the power button until you see the flashing lights to indicate pairing mode.

For Onn true wireless earbuds without a pairing button on the case

For true wireless earbuds, they will automatically re-connect with the last device they were paired with. If that device is out of range, you can open the case, and they'll go into pairing mode. If the device is in range, turn off its Bluetooth and then open the case to go into pairing mode.

For Onn true wireless earbuds with a pairing button on the case

For open-ear earbuds and other earbuds with a pairing button on the case, turn them on and then press and hold the pairing button for a couple of seconds.

For Onn bone-conduction headphones

Turn on your bone-conduction headphones and then press and hold the "volume up" and "volume down" buttons together for one second to enter pairing mode.

2. Find your Onn device on your phone or laptop and pair them

Paring with Android

Swipe down from the top of the screen. Touch and hold the Bluetooth icon to access Bluetooth settings. Turn on Bluetooth if it's off. Look for your Onn device under 'Available devices' and tap on it to connect.

Pairing with iPhone and iPad

Open the Settings app and then select Bluetooth. Turn on Bluetooth if it's off. Look for your Onn device under 'Other Devices' and tap on it to connect.

Pairing with MacOS

On your Mac, open the Apple menu, select 'System Settings,' and then click on 'Bluetooth.' Select your Onn device from the list, then click 'Connect.'

Pairing with Windows 11

Open 'Bluetooth & devices' in Windows Settings by clicking the Bluetooth button in the toolbar and selecting 'Add a Bluetooth Device.' If the Bluetooth button is hidden, click on the Windows icon in the lower-left corner of the taskbar, select Settings, and then 'Bluetooth & devices.'

When the 'Bluetooth & devices' window opens, click 'Add device.' In the 'Add a device window, select 'Bluetooth.' Look for your Onn device in the list and click on it to connect.

Alternatively, search for “Bluetooth” in your Windows search box. When the Bluetooth & other devices window comes up, make sure Bluetooth is on, then click “Add Bluetooth or other device” and select your device from the list.

Bluetooth Settings screen for Windows 11 with the Add Device button pointed out and the Windows icon and Bluetooth & devices menu option circled.

3. Confirm successful pairing

When you have successfully paired your Onn headphones to your phone or laptop, the LED on your headphones will stop blinking.

Use multipoint to connect headphones to a second device

Onn models like the Wireless Open-Ear Earphones, Wireless Over-Ear Headphones with Active Noise Canceling, and Wireless Bone Conduction Headphones support multipoint technology, allowing simultaneous connections to multiple devices. Here’s how to set up multipoint:

  1. Turn on your Onn headphones and connect to the first device.
  2. Once connected to the first device, re-enter pairing mode following the instructions at the top of this article.
  3. On the second device, access Bluetooth settings and select your headphones from the list of Bluetooth devices to complete the pairing process.
  4. To use both devices simultaneously, you’ll need to go back to your first device and manually re-connect to your Onn headphones following the instructions below.

Re-connecting on Android

Swipe down from the top of the screen. Touch and hold the Bluetooth icon to access Bluetooth settings. Select your device from ‘Saved devices’ or ‘Paired devices.”

Re-connecting on iOS and iPadOS

Open the Settings app and then select Bluetooth. Find your Onn device in the ‘My Devices’ list and tap on it to connect.

Re-connecting on Windows

Click on the Bluetooth icon in the taskbar. In the ‘Devices’ window that pops up, scroll down and click on the ‘Connect’ button next to your Onn device.

Re-connecting on Mac

Open the Apple menu, select ‘System Settings,’ and then click on ‘Bluetooth.’ Select your Onn device from the list, then click 'Connect.'

Troubleshooting your Bluetooth connection

If you have followed the steps above and your device still isn’t pairing, try the steps in our detailed guide on how to fix Bluetooth pairing problems.

When you open your sound settings on your computer, does it show your ear buds as the sound device? If not, are they there to select? If you don’t see your ear buds as one of the sound options, confirm they are connected to your computer in your PC’s Bluetooth settings. Perhaps, the ear buds are connecting to another device, like your phone, and not the PC.

Hi I’m not sure where to look or how to find this out but can anyone help me please!!! I bought the Onn In-Ear Wireless Earphones with Charging Case from Walmart and they are decent but I can one get the right one to connect individually, the left one turns on by its self but idk how to make it pair to my device by itself. If I pull out the right it works byself, and with the left, but the left wont work alone. Any help would be so appreciated! I use these to listen to music or books while working and can only have one in my ears at a time so i would love to be able to switch them up and maximize the battery life

Someone asked a similar question above. The issues is that many earbuds are made so that one side pairs to the device and then pairs directly to the other side. Both sides aren’t capable of pairing to the device. Depending on your specific ONN model, this may be what you are experiencing.

For what ever reason my ONN ear buts won’t sync and play together. I have forgotten the device, charged them, but when I take them out of the charging pod to pair, they show up individually on the Bluetooth options

If they’re flashing for pairing but still not showing up in your Bluetooth, it’s possible there may be a hardware issue. You may want to exchange them for another pair and see if that fixes things.

The instructions say they’ll go into pairing mode when you power them on, but that’s incorrect. From powered off mode you need to hold the power button until you hear “Pairing”, which is a couple seconds longer than you’d hold it just to power on.

Ok mine pair just fine, for about 4minutes. I can get them to pair no problem. Start listening to music & by the end of the 1st sond they say “powering off” and that’s exactly what they do. Over & over. Before I put them in a blender does anyone have an idea as to why? Is there something I missed? If not, the blender it is.

I plugged my ear buds in to charge them. All the 4 dotted, white lights were lit the next morning (not blinking). I took the buds out and tried turning on the right one. It wouldn’t turn on. The left one turned on for a whopping 5 seconds and turned off. The light turned red. I tried recharging them again. Still, the same issue. PLEASE NOTE: I have only used them once after purchasing them about 6 weeks ago. I haven’t been able to use them since. Any suggestions?

Did you have the earbuds firmly seated in the case so they were touching the charging ports? I’m not fully familiar with how that model works, but the lights may just indicate the extra battery in the case was charging, not the earbuds, themselves.

So I’ve been using these earphones with my iPhone and they’ve worked wonderfully. Then I needed to use some for my computer one day so I paired them with that and used it. I turned them off and next time I went to pair them with my iPhone again it would not work. I removed the device from my computers pairing list. I charged the earphones. I turned both them and the phone off and back on. I turn on the earphones, they say power on, they say Bluetooth pairing, and the light flashes like it should, my phone is searching for devices to pair with Bluetooth and it just never works to pair. I wait and wait but I could sit there forever and it just doesn’t work. Other (not as good) earphones pair with my phone, but these onn earphones I want to use will not even pair with the computer I used before now. They just will not connect. What can I do?

My wife bought me these, model 100005529 and one headset (R side) works perfectly but the other doesnt turn on at all so i cant pair or reset. When in the dock, it (L side) flashes red instead of having a solid red light like the right side. Is there anything that i can do to fix this?

With the Bluetooth earbuds or headphones off hold the button down even after it turns on until the lights are blinking very quickly from blue to red and during that period is when the earbuds finally paired for me. I kept trying and it still took a few tries after figuring it out but without this article I think I would have smashed earbuds with a hammer 😅 I had no problem connecting them to my other tablet which got broken tonight, I’m not having much luck with my tablets and accessories today 😒

I bought my headphones 2 days ago. I have new phone that hasn’t ever been connected to anything but my previous phone. So no other headsets or speakers or whatever. Ive managed to make them visible but as soon as i try to connect it asks for a password. It’s not 0000,1111,2222,3333 etc. Its not 1234 its not the model nor the name nor the serial number. Nothing works. I believe the issue is that the headphones are denying my access to them because there is no password that i didn’t try. Should i be holding any button in order to get them paired?

My Onn earbuds are paired and work fine with my phone until I walk into my kitchen or my washroom.  Then they just stop.  I have to wait until I go to another part of my house before I turn them on again.  I have a small house so it should not be the fact of the WIFI not reaching all areas.
Can you tell me what I need to do in order to fix this, please?

Wireless earbuds work via Bluetooth, not WiFi. Bluetooth has a much shorter range - about 35 feet in good conditions, but less when it has to go through walls, etc. So it’s not surprising that you’re losing connection as you walk around your house. Just bring your phone with you and you won’t lose the connection.

I always have my phone with me and the earbuds still cut off. I can’t figure out why it is only in that area of the house or what to do about it. I’ve tried re-pairing them to the phone, but nothing has worked so far.

Bluetooth operates on the same 2.4GHz frequency as many other common household devices, such as your WiFi router, baby monitors, security cameras and cordless phones. In addition, microwave ovens and fluorescent lights can also cause interference in the 2.4GHz frequency. So it could be that there is some device near your kitchen/washroom that is causing the issue. The easiest fix is to switch that device to use 5Ghz (if possible) or shut it off, if not needed.

Let me know if you figure out what is causing the problem.

I have tried connecting my bluetooth to my Galaxy S9 but I have tried the 0000, 1111, and 1234 but it keeps popping back up to enter the pin. I have forgotten the other two bluetooth that I had paired with my phone but the onn Bluetooth that I recently bought it would not connect in anyway I tried it with, it would not work.

you have to power the earbuds off…then hold the power button for longer then it takes to turn them on..I TY will go from blinking slow red then blue. To fast red and then blue..then they are in paring mode..if they are red blinking slow then you haven’t held them down long enough..turn them off and try again

I have a pair of Onn earbuds and they have no trouble with connecting to my devices but it seems they have problems connecting to each other. My left earbud work just fine but after a month or so of owning them and without any particularly risky activities with them the right one stopped playing sound. It is still connected though, I can press the button and i will interact with my device but it refuses to reliably connect to the left one and play the sounds. Is there a way I can fix the shaky connection?

With the power off, on the ear bud, hold down the power button until it starts flashing differently (may take up to 10 seconds) - this will be the initial pairing mode process, rather than re-paring. Then pair to your phone as a new device. See if that does it.
