I’ve been using a Google TV player as my primary streaming media player for the last few years. Everything about it is easy to use, including pairing Bluetooth headphones. Whether you're a first-time user or need a quick refresher, following my simple steps will make the process a breeze.
Initial pairing with your Chromecast with Google TV
If you own a Google TV player, it supports pairing with Bluetooth headphones. These steps will work with the Chromecast with Google TV and other Google TV players like the Onn Google TV 4K Streaming Box from Walmart. Here’s how to pair them:
- Using your Google TV remote control, press and hold the Home button.
- In the box that pops up in the top right, select Bluetooth.
- Select Pair remote or accessory.
- Make sure your headphones are in pairing mode.
- Find your headphones from the list of available Bluetooth devices and select them.
- On the Bluetooth pairing request screen, select Pair.
Reconnecting Bluetooth headphones
Your Bluetooth headphones should automatically reconnect when you turn them on. If they don’t, here’s how to reconnect them manually.
- Using your Google TV remote control, press and hold the Home button.
- In the box that pops up in the top right, select Bluetooth.
- Select your headphones from the list of devices.
Troubleshooting common Bluetooth connection issues
If you run into issues when pairing Bluetooth headphones, there are a few basic tips that will solve the most common problems.
Headphones not pairing
- Restart your Google TV player: A simple reboot can sometimes resolve pairing issues.
- Re-pair your Bluetooth headphones: Turn off your headphones, then go through the pairing instructions above. When you see your headphones, select them and choose to forget them. Put your headphones back in pair mode and follow the pairing instructions above.
- Reset your Bluetooth headphones: If that re-pairing doesn't work, consult your headphone's user manual to reset them. Resetting will clear all connections on your headphones, so try re-paring first.
Audio lag and lip-sync issues
- Restart both devices: This often helps to resynchronize the audio.
- Check for obstructions: Ensure no physical barriers exist between your Google TV device and the headphones.
- Check for Google TV firmware updates: Updating could solve the problem if your Google TV’s firmware is outdated. Go to Settings, then System, then About, and then select System Update.
