Technosource Printies Lets Kids Make Their Very Own Stuffed Animals

by Tobey Grumet Segal on October 27, 2009

Printies design onlineprintiesUsing web tools and old-fashioned craft materials, these new activity kits by Technosource give your kids the power to design and make their very own stuffed animals. With stores like Build-A-Bear Workshop catering to children’s inner craftsman (for a fairly hefty price), this product is not only inexpensive, it also offers a lot more to play with— yielding six stuffed toys from one kit. And did we mention there’s no sewing, cutting or ironing involved? All you’ll need is a color, inkjet printer and a computer. Each Printies Design Studio comes with a code which unlocks an online design studio at MyPrinties.com.

There are three right now—Printies Pet Design Studio, Printies Ocean Design Studio and Printies Jungle Design Studio. Each one offers millions of combinations to make your animal using tools like paint brushes, stamps and patterns. You can even add your own photos and type words onto your designs. Once you’re satisfied, you feed the special Printies fabric sheet, with a pre-drawn outline of a character, into any inkjet printer. It needs to print on both sides, so you’ll have to do this twice. Then, you simply tear along the perforated lines on the paper and pop out your printed, pre-sewn creation. The perforation is so easy to use that kids should have no problem doing it by themselves.

All that’s left now is to stuff your toy and seal it shut with a pair of shoes. You can decorate the shoes with included stickers. Once you’ve made your designs, you can also upload them to the Printies Gallery to show them off or let people use them for their own toys. Members can also vote for their favorite characters (just once) by giving it one to five hearts—though you can’t vote for yourself!

Printies will work with a Mac or PC, but it’s important to remember that you can’t use a laser printer because of the increased heat and non-compatible inks. You’ll also need to download Adobe Air (for free) to use this, which shouldn’t be tough. For more information on this, check out http://www.adobe.com/products/air/. And of course, once you’re done with your six creations, you can buy Printies refills for $10 that will give you all the materials for three more animals.

Spent an hour of my xmas holidays trying to get these things to print, keeps telling me to print and save, to which I say yes and it takes me to a blank printies.  My son has lost interest and has gone to play with another xmas toy that works.  I will be requesting my money back.
