The most popular gift this holiday season is, unsurprisingly, gift cards. According to a recent Mashable/Statista poll of U.S. shoppers, 43% of Americans are planning on buying gift cards this year for someone on their list.
But not all gift cards need to be purchased at the mall or at the supermarket checkout – digital gift cards are becoming a popular way to send a gift without having to mail a physical items. If you’re interested in giving digital gift cards a try this year, mobile payment giant PayPal just launched its new PayPal Digital Gifts store, an online gift card marketplace for U.S. customers.
At the moment, only Apple iTunes gift cards (in the form of a redeemable iTunes code) are available through PayPal, and only at full price. More cards will be added to the store in coming weeks and months, and according to TheNextWeb, deals will be offered as well.
Obviously, the current lack of non-Apple options is a pretty big limitation to PayPal’s new store. There are plenty of other ways to send gift cards digitally, though, like mobile app Swagg. You might also want to check out Wrapp and these other Facebook-connected gifting options.
