Your morning smoothie may seem like it is healthy, but it probably has more calories (and more sugar) than you think. The NutriBullet Balance ($180) connected blender puts you in charge of your nutrition by letting you know exactly how many calories are in your smoothie as you build it.
The NutriBullet compact blender is perfectly sized to for making your morning smoothies, with an advanced nutrient extraction blade designed to reduce food to the perfect smoothie texture (even seeds and nuts). NutriBullet users have become fans in part because of its easy cleanup. This mini-blender uses a blade that screws onto a blender top, which doubles as your drinking cup. The newly announced NutriBullet Balance ups the tech quotient by adding Bluetooth connectivity that syncs to your smartphone.
From the app, you can choose from hundreds of recipes (or build your own), then fill the blender cup with your ingredients. As you toss in your fruit and veggies, the Balance weighs them and dings when you’ve hit the right amount, calculating nutrition information as you go. If you add more or less of an ingredient than is called for, the app adjusts for that, listing calories, fat, sugar, carbs, protein and more so you know exactly what you’re eating. The app also offers recipes tailored to specific diets, so whether you’re trying to lose weight or need a smoothie with a low glycemic index, you can find the perfect smoothie recipe.
What we like most about the NutriBullet Balance is how simple it is to use. While it adds an extra step to your smoothie-making process — because you have to open the app to follow a recipe and see calories — there are no complicated hoops to jump through. If you already look up recipes online to make your smoothies, Balance will make following those recipes easier.
