One of my favorite movie apps, Netflix, adds the iPhone and iPod Touch to the long list of devices capable of playing streamed “Watch Instantly” movies and TV episodes.
I love Netflix because it gives me a huge selection of movies and TV shows that I can play on any of my devices that support the Netflix streaming app. And there are plenty: my iPad, my HDTV, my Blu-ray player, my TiVo, my Xbox...and now, the iPhone. Streaming movies from the Internet is so convenient, I hardly ever rent physical DD anymore.
A Netflix subscription costs $8.99 a month and lets members watch an unlimited number of streamed movies. You can also receive physical DVDs through the mail with free shipping both ways, which is helpful since many movies are not available for to Watch Instantly. You can keep the DVDs as long as you like, but only get one at a time with the basic membership.
One thing to remember is that apps like Netflix will eat into your phones data allowance. In my test, 30 minutes of streamed video used up almost 100 MB. So check your iPhone's data plan. if you're on the $15 AT&T DataPlus plan, which comes with 200 MB, you'll want to reserve your video watching to those places where you can access Wi-Fi. The $25 per month AT&T DataPro plan comes with 2GB of data.

My kids and I chewed through the 250MB data plan in just a few days. Good thing I got my iPad same day Apple started shipping 3G model and was able to upgrade to the unlimited plan before the switch to the 2GB cap.
