Cisco's 2011 lineup of Linksys E-Series routers offers increased wireless performance while also being incredibly easy to setup, thanks to the Cisco Connect software.
Cisco Connect is the software orignially launched with the consumer-friendly Cisco Valet line of routers. We first profiled Cisco Connect on the Valet routers a year ago and found it simple to get up and going, even for the most technically challenged among us. Other benefits of Cisco Connect include parental controls to block specific websites and restrict Internet access during certain hours, and a separate guest login that gives visitors access to the Internet but not your computer files.
The Linksys E-Series 2011 models also sport a new industrial design that should blend well into most homes. And, thankfully, no more flashing lights across the top to attract unwanted attention.
There are five E-Series models available for 2011. As you go up the line, you get increases in performance and range, along with other features such as ports for external storage. Basic user should be happy with the Linksys E1200 ($59 list, $49 on Amazon) or the Linksys E1500 ($79, $69 on Amazon), if you're looking for extended range for a large house or to go through walls. For the ultimate in performance, the new Linksys E4200 ($179 list) offers 3x3 streaming technology with speeds of up to 450Mbps, though you will need a computer or adapter on your device that can support the 3x3.
