America’s favorite cookie fundraiser is finally going digital. The Girl Scouts of the USA has just announced the launch of a new program called Digital Cookie. It allows local Girl Scout groups to sell boxes of cookies via mobile apps and personalized websites for the first time ever. Participation in the program is voluntary and subject to parental and council approval.
“Girls have been telling us that they want to go into this space,” explains Sarah Angel-Johnson, the Girl Scouts’ chief digital cookie executive. “Online is where entrepreneurship is going.”
Starting with its coming cookie sales drive, Girl Scout troops will have the option to choose between two different online sales platforms. Individual Scouts can choose to create and upload video their own personalized, private webpages where customers can review their options and click to buy. For privacy and security reasons, the individualized websites will only be accessible by email invitation. Completed orders are then shipped directly to customers’ doorsteps.
A separate mobile cookie sales platform called COCODirect will also be available for in-person sales. It will allow troops to take and process orders via tablet or smartphone, including credit card orders. Both digital options allow Scouts to better take, manage and deliver orders, as well as track their fundraising goals.

It’s available on the Apple App Store for iOS and on Google Play for Android devices.
